Abdo Sleiman Haidar SRPros/Orth MBAPO MISPO

Consultant Prosthetist/Orthotist & Director


State Registered Prosthetist and Orthotist specializing in upper and lower limb prosthetics with over 15 years of NHS and private experience.
Presently Lead Consultant Prosthetist at The London Prosthetic Centre, based in the first London only private prosthetic facility offering custom made silicone on- site.
Previous roles included Prosthetic Lead at Queen Mary’s Hospital, Roehampton with responsibility for the prosthetic rehabilitation of over 1500 lower limb amputees. Other appointments include prosthetic product specialist with RSLSteeper, Honorary President for the Chinese Association of Prosthetics and Orthotics and nominated supervisor responsible for teaching staff and University students. Abdo is researching prosthetic designs as part of his post-graduate degree at the University of Surrey, England and have published peer review articles and given presentations in his specialty. Abdo is also a visiting Lecturer at the University of Surrey, Guilford and an Examiner at the University of Salford, Manchester.

Attended a number of Bond Solon expert witness courses and been certified by Cardiff Law School as an Expert Witness. Abdo is also a member of The Expert Witness Instiute and have prepared many expert witness prosthetic reports following amputation.

John Ronald

Mr John. R. Ronald  MBAPO. SRPros. FISPO

Prosthetic Upper Limb Specialist

A Fellow of the British Institute of Surgical Technologists, Member British association Prosthetists and Orthotists, State Registered, Fellow of the International Society Prosthetics and Orthotics.  Manager for RSLSteeper (Private Company) 1974 to 2007 at Nottingham City Hospital my speciality being upper limb prosthetics.
Qualified as a Prosthetist in 1966 - Appointed Manager of Nottingham branch in 1974 - appointed to the company Prosthetic Management board in 1979 - Appointed as a clinical supervisor London School of Prosthetics in 1985 and Training students from Salford University on a six-month placement at Nottingham.  Have completed a lot of Presentations on Upper Limb Prosthetics at various venues around the world and the UK. Helped to organise and run five three-day symposiums to educate Prosthetist in the latest idea’s on upper limb Prosthetics at The Trent Symposium. Over the last few years I have been involved in the trials and development of new ideas for RSLSteeper R & D.
As a member of ISPO I was given the task of Exhibition Co-ordinator to put together what was the largest Prosthetic and Orthotic Exhibition in the UK. The World Congress was held at the Scottish Exhibition Centre Glasgow from the1st - 6th July 2001. During my time as manager at Nottingham it was developed as a centre of excellence for myoelectric prosthetics.    

Paul Leishman    SR Pros/Orth MBAPO

Prosthetist, Clinical Specialist


Paul graduated from Strathclyde University with a Bsc (Hons) degree in Prosthetics and Orthotics in 2004. Working in Leeds treating NHS patients, he has enhanced his skills clinically and has developed his training within specialist groups, including the Clinical Support Group, Prosthetic Technology group and CADCAM group. Paul became lead trainer for clinical staff on the dedicated Biosculptor CADCAM software and Biomill system to assist clinicians within RSLSteeper to provide a high standard of practice. Paul has also worked briefly within the NHS-based centre in Edinburgh but has recently returned to Leeds. He enjoys strong ties with the National Centre for Prosthetics and Orthotics at Strathclyde University in Glasgow and has been a clinical examiner several times. Paul is currently based at our private facility in Leeds.

Tim Verrall MBAPO SR pros

Tim originally trained as a mechanical engineer and as part of an HND course worked for a short time at Chailey Heritage in Sussex, researching the use of carbon fibre in Orthotics.
He started training as a prosthetist with Steeper at Roehampton in 1974 and from 1978 worked at the Disability Services Centre, Withington Hospital, Manchester. He continued to work with RSL Steeper following the merger of the two companies and now has considerable experience in both upper and lower extremity disciplines.
For five years he headed up their Best Practice Group, responsible for the production of evidence based prosthetic guidelines for the prescription of socket types, the choice of casting methods, and generic prosthetic components, before handing on that responsibility. These guidelines have now been published.
He is also involved with their Clinical Support Group for lower extremity products and is the Clinical Support Prosthetist for lower extremity products, whilst continuing to work as a Clinical Prosthetist at the Prosthetic and Wheelchair Department, Aintree Hospital, Liverpool.

Janet Kingston

Occupational Therapy Consultant

Qualified as an Occupational Therapist at the Derby School of Occupational   Therapy in 1970 and started work at Nottingham City Hospital on a rotational post. In 1980 Janet started work at Mobility Centre dealing with upper Limb amputees. Was a founder member of the Upper Limb Prosthetic Occupational Therapist Group in 1988 as a support Group for every OT working in this Specialist field.

Helping to organise five Symposium’s between 1992 and 2002.
Janet has been a member ISPO committee from 1995 until 2005 serving as the chairperson. For most of that time she worked with other colleagues organizing the annual scientific meetings for 100-150 delegates.
Member of CIGOPW (Clinical Interest Group Orthotics, Prosthetics and Wheelchairs) Executive committee between 1997-2001.
Janet worked as Head Occupational Therapist from 2001 and was responsible for the O.T. service at the Nottingham Mobility Centre until January 2008.
Janet has spoken on Upper Limb Prosthetics and training at many
Conferences in many venues within the UK, Canada and Hong Kong.

Robin Cooper SR Pros

Upper Limb Prosthetic Specialist

With 45 years of experience in the prosthetics and orthotics field Robin’s specialisms are upper limb prosthetics, reciprocating gait orthoses and silicone products. He currently provides advice, training and support to our distributors in the Middle East, Asia and India.

 

 

 

Steve Carter SR Pros, MBAPO

Proshetist, Clinical Specialist

Clinical Prosthetist based in the Northern Region. Following graduation with a BSc (hons) in Prosthetics from Strathclyde University, I have been treating NHS Patients for a number of years in the London and the Yorkshire regions before becoming involved in private practice.
I have extensive clinical management and experience. I have also a special interest in computer design philosophies and technology advancements, being a founder member of both the Clinical Support Group and CADCAM group for the RSLSteeper group. 
 

 

Carl Elliot SR Pros

Prosthetist, Clinical Specialist

With nearly twenty years of post qualification experience, Carl has undertaken a number of roles within the industry including both Branch and Clinical Manager, and roles within the field of training and education. For five years he served as an External Examiner to the Salford University course and states that one of his professional highlights was when he was the GB team Prosthetist for the World Championships

 

 

Mark Smith, SR Orth, MBAPO

Specialist Orthotist

I qualified from the Prosthetics and Orthotics Degree course at Strathclyde University in 1998 and since then  I have gained competencies in all areas of orthotic treatment.  My key interest areas are Lower extremity Biomechanics and Neurology.  I work on a basis of good biomechanical principles and through evidence based practice.

 


 

Gareth Roblin

Physiotherapist

My initial experience of Amputee Rehabilitation was gained with the Douglas Bader Unit at the Queen Mary’s University Hospital Roehampton. It was here that I learnt the benefits of early rehabilitation for the amputee client, especially the importance of general conditioning and strengthening. This along with gait re-education forms a large part of the management programme designed to promote a healthy functional lifestyle for amputee clients.

More recently, I have also been working with Hounslow and Richmond Community Healthcare as the Clinical Lead in the Inpatients Rehabilitation department. This is based at in Teddington Memorial Hospital and again the focus is on striving to get the clients as functionally independent as possible.  

  

 

Liv Meddings

Physiotherapist

Liv graduated as a Physiotherapist in 2002 from Oxford Brookes University and completed her Junior rotations at Kings College Hospital London.

Over the course of her career she has worked predominantly as a Locum Physio and has developed an extremely broad experience base with the main focus being Amputee and Prosthetic Rehabilitation. She has experience in Vascular and Surgical wards with the
acute aspect of rehabilitation both prior to, and post amputation. She has also worked at Crystal Palace Artificial Limb Centre, Headley Court Defence Rehabilitation Centre and Harold Wood Disablement Service Centre where she worked as a Senior Therapist. This exposure to a variety of treatment centres has further enhanced her diagnostic and treatment skills, as well as giving her the ability to provide a comprehensive rehabilitation service for a wide range of clients.

Liv prides herself on giving a holistic approach to rehabilitation focussing on the goals and requirements of each client with the view to achieving confident gait and regaining independence.

Silicone Manager, Silicone Field and manufacturing Specialist

Richard is a specialist in the field of silicone technologies. Having travelled around the world training, lecturing and visiting clients, he has gained a vast knowledge of both clinical and manufacturing methods. Richard’s silicone skills are internationally praised for both quality and finding new solutions to individual challenges.

Richard is now based in Texas, USA where he is happy to consult on all matter of silicone.

Workshop Manager, Lower Limb Specialist Technician

Dennis has started working at J.E. Hanger in Roehampton as an apprentice in 1969. Trained in sheet metal work for 5 years. Since, he has moved to modular prosthetics specialising in all aspects of mechanical repairs and manufacturing.
Dennis previous position including Foreman since 1984 for J.E. Hanger and Vessa Ltd and Hugh Steeper Ltd at Queen Mary’s Hospital, Roehampton where he was responsible for manufacturing prosthetic devices, training, quality assurance, first aid,  and managing a high number of technicians.
Dennis has joined the London Prosthetic Centre in September 2008 after working for 39 years at Queen Mary’s Hospital, Roehampton.

Silicone Workshop Manager

Mick has had thirty years of experience in the field of upper and lower limb prosthetic manufacturing and ten years in silicone.  He has worked for J.E. Hanger, Otto Bock, Dorset Orthopedic and Roehampton Rehabilitation Centre. Mick is also a specialist in manufacturing custom silicone prosthetics. He is also a nominated training officer for RSLSteeper teaching silicone technologies.

Mark has worked in Prosthetics for thirty years, including a four year apprenticeship. He has experienced most aspects of artificial limbs from conventional through to modular limbs in both upper and lower extremity. In the last ten years he has specialised in high definition silicone cosmesis, which is a more artistic style of prosthetics.

Natalie Ellner

Silicone Specialist

Natalie has been a sculptor for over ten years, and as a silicone specialist for the last 7 years. She graduated from a Sculpture and Special Prosthetics effects course at the University of Arts, London, with a 1st Class Honours degree. Alongside her time at university, she worked as a prosthetics sculptor for various studios and films (including Harry Potter).
Since then she has been working for RSL Steeper putting her creative talents to good use by sculpting custom made high definition silicone limbs, specialising in prostheses for burns patients.
 

 

 

Gemma Richardson - Silicone Technician


Since graduating from the London Institute of Arts with 1st Class Honours degree in Prosthetic makeup, Gemma has worked on various BBC productions, ITV dramas and commercials as a hair and makeup artist. She has also worked as a silicone prosthetics artist on films such as Harry Potter, The Infidel, Rafta Rafta and Brick Lane.
In the last ten years , Gemma has gained extensive skills in silicone, prosthetics, colour skin tone matching, live casting, sculpting, mould making, special effects makeup and body art. She has recently joined RSL Steeper where she uses her skills for medical casting, sculpting silicone cosmetic limbs, mould making and spectromatch colouring.


 

Clare Buckingham

Clare brings a diverse range of skills and experiences to The London Prosthetic Centre having worked as a Marketing Director, Commercial Manager and Event Manager in Independent  Schools;  Tournament Director for the Lawn Tennis Association and working for many years for the youth development charity, Raleigh International.
Over two years ago she decided to develop her creative side and retrained as a Traditional Upholsterer. Having passed with distinction, she has now set up her own Traditional and Modern Upholstery business under her own name, which she is developing alongside her work at The London Prosthetic Centre.
