Joe
In September 2016 I was knocked over by a Quad Bike driver as I crossed the road – he was driving at 58mph. I was unconscious for two and a half months and in hospital for seven. When I regained consciousness I realised that my right leg had been amputated beneath the knee, that my right eyesight had been saved after two major operations, but only 50% was saved, and that I could not speak, due to brain damage. I began to improve my speech, learned how to use a wheelchair, use crutches etc and after five and a half months I was transferred from St George’s Hospital in Tooting to Queen Mary’s in Roehampton where my NHS leg was fitted. The staff were wonderful but I was advised that I could get a much better leg if I went to a Prosthetics Consultant – and that is where I met Abdo at The London Prosthetics Centre.
I realised very quickly that I was speaking with a renowned prosthesis expert. Abdo and his various team members, led by Pavlina, have been absolutely marvellous and I would recommend them to anyone who needs a new prosthetic leg. Although I had no major problems, I did have trouble with my stump, but Abdo inspected it regularly and advised me on what creams I needed to prevent if having blisters. He has done a tremendous job.
As I cycle a lot, six days a week, Abdo advised me to fit two new legs, my ‘day-to-day leg’ and my ‘cycling leg’. They work a treat! Within the past months my day-to-day leg has been dramatically improved and I now have a leg which includes an electronic ankle – a Proprio Foot. This makes walking even more comfortable than previously. I walked the Vitality 10,000 metre ‘run’ and had no difficulty at all due to Abdo’s guidance.
I can’t thank Abdo enough for all he has done for me and helping me to lead a ‘normal’ life again. I look forward to seeing him on a regular basis.
